Chengdu is the capital of Sichuan Province, a sub-provincial city, a mega-city, the core city of the twin-city economic circle of Chengdu and Chongqing, an important central city in the western region of China, an important national high-tech industrial base, a trade and logistics center and a comprehensive transportation hub, as determined by the State Council. The city has a flat topography, a network of rivers, rich products and developed agriculture, a humid subtropical monsoon climate, and has been known as the "Land of Heaven" since ancient times. 301 of the world's top 500 companies settled in 2019.  Chengdu is located in the western part of the Sichuan Basin, the eastern edge of the Tibetan Plateau, northeast and Deyang City, southeast and Ziyang City, south and Meishan City, southwest and Ya'an City, northwest and Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture; 2020, the city's land area of 14,335 square kilometers, accounting for 2.9% of the total area of the province (485,000 square kilometers). Among them, the built-up area of the central city is 977.12 square kilometers.
